what is dissolved air flotation ?

 
Dissolved air flotation is a solid-liquid separator in many bubbles in contact with the solids, lowering their density to water. Then, they will float up to the surface so that suspended solids of water, including oil and grease, without dissolving in water, can be reduced.DAF can be used in pretreatment, water reuse, deep
treatment, phosphorus removal from tail water, etc., and critical equipment to reduce the ss, cod, body, and total phosphorus.
 

In which stage of sewage treatment is dissolved air flotation used ?

 
Dissolved air flotation is usually used in sewage treatment's primary or secondary treatment stages, mainly for solid-liquid separation and removal of floating pollutants. Specifically, the application stages of dissolved air flotation in sewage treatment include the following aspects:

1. Primary treatment stage: Dissolved air flotation can be used as the primary treatment process of the sewage treatment system to remove large suspended solids, grease, solid particles, etc., that affect the subsequent treatment effect. Through the air flotation tank, pollutants in the water are gathered on the surface to form scum, achieving preliminary solid-liquid separation.

2. Coagulant treatment stage: During the sewage treatment, coagulant is sometimes added to accelerate the aggregation and settlement of suspended solids. Dissolved air flotation can be combined with coagulants to remove residual suspended solids and colloidal substances from coagulated sewage.

3. Intermediate treatment stage: In the sewage treatment system, dissolved air flotation can also be used as an intermediate treatment process to remove tiny particulate matter, colloidal substances, and specific organic matter and improve the clarity and transparency of water quality.

4. Improve biological treatment efficiency: Dissolved air flotation treatment can reduce suspended pollutants and colloidal substances in the water, provide better water quality for subsequent biological treatment units, improve biological treatment efficiency, and reduce treatment difficulty. 

To sum up, dissolved air flotation is usually used in sewage treatment systems' primary or secondary treatment stages to achieve solid-liquid separation, remove floating pollutants, and improve water quality, providing a good water quality foundation for subsequent in-depth treatment.
 

What are the essential components of dissolved air flotation?

 
Its main equipment includes an air flotation tank, slag scraping device, pressurized water pump, air compressor, pressure dissolved air tank, dissolved air release head and supporting coagulation and flocculation tank, scum collection device, stirring device, etc.
Its core technology is to ensure the pressure balance of the air-water two-phase in the pressure-dissolved air tank, so that as much air as possible is dissolved in the water and to avoid clogging of the dissolved air release head in the contact room.
 

How does dissolved air flotation work?

 
Dissolved air flotation takes the treated effluent through the circulating pump as circulating water which will enter the air compressor tank. The circulating water mixed with air, called air-saturated dissolved air water flows into releases, and a large number of nano-scale micro-bubbles are generated via releasers, and the micro-bubbles quickly attach to the coagulated suspended matter. When the density of suspended matter is gradually lower than that of water, it automatically rises to the surface. Clean water at the bottom of DAF, is discharged to the next step process to treatment. The scum-floating to the surface is scraped to the sludge tank by scrapers for further treatment.
