From May 2 to 14, 2026, Mr. Zhou, representing Yosun Environmental, took part in the “Visit to IFAT Munich 2026 & European Green Eco-Environmental Industry Study Tour” organized by the Suzhou Environmental Protection Industry Association. The nearly two‑week trip aimed to gain first‑hand insight into cutting‑edge environmental technologies and advanced management practices in Europe, helping local Chinese environmental companies connect with global standards. Below is a journal of the tour’s highlights.
On May 4, the delegation arrived at the Munich Trade Fair Centre and posed for a group photo in front of the iconic IFAT Munich 2026 signage. As the world’s leading trade fair for water, wastewater, waste and raw materials management, IFAT is held every two years, attracting thousands of exhibitors and tens of thousands of professional visitors from around the globe.
“Standing at the entrance of IFAT, you can feel the vibrant pulse of the global environmental industry. From Europe to Asia, from municipal to industrial sectors – solutions from different countries converge here. This is exactly why we came to learn,” said Mr. Zhou.
Once inside, the delegation toured the halls, focusing on exhibits related to wastewater treatment, sludge disposal, solid‑liquid separation, and smart water management. A wide variety of equipment was on display – different from Yosun’s main products (DAF units and Lamella clarifiers). For example, we saw high‑density clarifiers, disc filter systems, membrane bioreactor (MBR) skids, and electrochemical treatment units for specific industrial wastewaters used in large municipal plants.
Though their principles and designs differ from ours, these devices all serve the same goal: cleaner water. Mr. Zhou carefully observed each operating demonstration and exchanged notes with onsite technical staff on process parameters, application scenarios, and maintenance costs.
“European equipment places more emphasis on detail and energy optimisation – for instance, their scraper balancing mechanisms and air‑release anti‑clogging designs are worth learning from,” Mr. Zhou remarked after the visit. “Although our DAF and Lamella clarifiers are already mature in the domestic market, there is still much room for improvement in automation, modularisation, and long‑term operational stability.”
The delegation also explored digital water treatment solutions, including remote operation platforms and AI‑assisted chemical dosing systems. These new concepts greatly inspired Mr. Zhou. “In the future, we need to bundle intelligent control and services with our hardware sales,” he said.
In the second half of the trip, the delegation made a special visit to Austria to see the long‑established Abwasserreinigungsanlage Dornbirn‑Schwarzach – a well‑known old‑generation wastewater treatment plant serving tens of thousands of residents and local industries. Having undergone several upgrades, the plant still operates efficiently and reliably.
Upon entering the plant, the first impression was cleanliness and order. Even in the core municipal wastewater treatment area, there was no unpleasant odour, and the floor was free of standing water or stains. In the warehouse, spare parts and tools were neatly arranged by category and specification, every item labelled, and usage records clearly kept. This “5S‑level” housekeeping left a deep impression on the delegation.
Though the plant has a history spanning several decades, its core equipment runs 24/7 without interruption. From the lifting station, screens, grit chamber, biological tank and secondary clarifier to the tertiary treatment units – every process step was orderly. We paid particular attention to the sludge withdrawal system and sludge dewatering room. Equipment surfaces showed no obvious corrosion, and there were no leaks or drips, demonstrating the solid workmanship of European manufacturing.
Entering the central control room was eye‑opening – a large display screen presented the entire process flow with a modular visual interface. Key parameters such as water level, flow, dissolved oxygen, and sludge concentration for each unit were shown in real time. Only a few operators were needed to manage the whole plant. The system also integrated predictive alarm and maintenance suggestion functions, greatly reducing the risk of sudden failures.
The plant’s technician gave a detailed presentation on the facility’s history, upgrade projects, and daily inspection routines. He stressed that while reliable equipment is essential, continuous monitoring, regular maintenance, and staff commitment are the keys to decades of stable operation.
After the visit, the entire delegation and the plant’s team took a group photo in front of the Abwasserreinigungsanlage Dornbirn‑Schwarzach gate. At that moment, smiles from environmental professionals across borders came together, united by the common mission of protecting blue skies and clean water.
After the nearly two‑week European study tour, Mr. Zhou shared his reflections:
“At IFAT, we saw the frontier of technology and the breadth of global markets. At the Dornbirn plant, we saw meticulous operation and maintenance sustained for decades. Yosun’s DAF units and Lamella clarifiers have already served over a hundred projects in China. But if we want to go international and serve customers with higher expectations, we must continue improving – in detailed design, automation control, modular assembly, and full life‑cycle service.”
“Travelling with the Suzhou association also reminded me how valuable it is for local environmental companies to go global together and learn from each other. After returning home, I will integrate the ideas and practices learned in Germany and Austria into our product upgrades and after‑sales system, making every Yosun piece of equipment more durable, more intelligent, and more user‑friendly.”
From IFAT Munich 2026 to the old yet modern Austrian wastewater treatment plant, Mr. Zhou of Yosun Environmental took his questions with him, and brought back valuable insights. Environmental protection knows no borders, and technologies share common ground. Moving forward, Yosun Environmental will continue to uphold the belief that “quality connects the world”, absorbing advanced international experience to provide better solid‑liquid separation solutions for customers at home and abroad.
